GRADING Please consider all records displayed on this website as visually graded (i.e. not listened to) using this scale:

EX (EXCELLENT): No noticeable visual defects. Records will be glossy. Jackets will be flat and free of writing. Should play through without any skips or noticeable surface noise

VG (Very Good): One or more minor defects will be visually noticeable. Should play through without any skips, but there will likely be some light surface noise in the form fuzz, clicks and pops. Jackets and labels will still have the majority of the art and information visible, but defects will be noticeable upon close inspection. These defects include but are not limited to:

  • Light scuffing or scratches on playing surface.
  • Light dulling of surface gloss.
  • Small amount of writing or staining on the jacket or label.
  • Small amount of edge or ring wear on jacket or Picture sleeve
  • Bent corner or crease on a jacket or picture sleeve
  • Small split on spine (Less than 1/3 the length of the jacket)
  • A small price tag or abrasion wear price tag has been removed. (No bigger than a dime)

G (GOOD): Many minor defects or one or two major defects. Should still play all the way through, but surface noise is a certainty. Larger portions of jacket art and label information will be compromised. Defects include, but are not limited to

  • Significant scuffing or scratches on playing surface.
  • Significant dulling of surface gloss.
  • Significant amount of writing or staining on the jacket or label.
  • Significant amount of edge or ring wear on jacket or Picture sleeve
  • Multiple bent corners or creases on a jacket or picture sleeve
  • Large split on spine (More than 1/3 the length of the jacket)
  • Price tag or abrasion wear price tag has been removed. (No bigger than ¼ of the jacket’s or label’s total area)

BEATER: What it sounds like. One or more defects that prevent the record from having collectible value. Sold as is.

+ (Plus) or – (Minus): Indicates that item is on the high end or low end of the spectrum for that rating. (e.g. a record with a VG+ rating for it’s jacket condition would probably only have one small defect, while a VG- could have three minor defects)

N/A: For whatever reason, the record does not have this component to grade. (e.g. most picture discs do not have labels, so would have N/A listed as the grade.)

Sealed: Record is still in the manufacturer’s shrink wrap. No judgment can be made on the condition of the actual playing surface or inside label. (What cannot be seen cannot be graded!) Jacket conditions may still be graded.

Refund, Returns and Cancellation Policies:

Items may be refunded for purchase price within a month of purchase, provided the record is returned to me in the same condition it was shipped out. (Sealed records must be returned sealed)

LET’S MAKE A DEAL! HAGGLING AND BARTERING:

I’m all about haggling and bartering. I think that they’re dying arts in this age of Walmart and Amazon.com. To that end, I’ve decided that no price on this website is set in stone and I’ll consider any reasonable and good natured offers that come my way. I will, however, ask that anyone asking for a deal follow these guidelines:

  • Email me (ken@evilempirerecords.com) with the subject line “Let’s Make A Deal”
  • In the body of the email, specify the deal YOU want. (For example: “Could you Go down to $4 for that Copy of AC/DC Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap?” or “If I buy (name three records), could you give me 20% off my total?” or something similar.)
  • DO NOT send me an email that says something like “How low could you go on these records?” or something similarly vague. Think of it this way: I’ve made my first offer with the price I’ve set… You make a counter offer.
  • I love trading. If you have some records you’re tired of, feel free to ask me for a trade. List the records you for trade have and their general condition in your email. I’m not a big fan of the “store credit” thing, preferring record for record swaps. Specify how you’ll get your records to me.
  • Be real. If you waste my time with ridiculous low ball offers, I’ll just ignore you.
  • Be polite and conversational. Ask for your deal nicely. Ask me how my day is going. Tell me a little about yourself. Don’t start off an email by telling me how ludicrous my prices are.
  • Include your name, address and what kind of shipping options you’re interested in.
